Memory in Space is an interactive spatial photo archive created by Designs & Words. It turns a collection of photos into a curved wall that surrounds the viewer in 3D, right inside a web browser. Using a webcam, the experience tracks the viewer’s hands in real time, so people navigate their memories with gestures instead of clicks. One hand moves the view across the wall; spreading two hands steps into a photo, and bringing them back together pulls out again.
The idea

Photo galleries are flat grids we scroll past. Memories don’t feel flat. Memory in Space asks what it would feel like to stand inside your own archive, with moments surrounding you, and to reach into one the way you would reach for something real. It brings the feeling of spatial computing to an ordinary laptop and webcam, with no headset required.
How it works

- Begin the archive loads a curved wall of photos around the viewer.
- One hand: look move one hand left, right, up or down to look across the wall.
- Two hands: step in spread both hands apart to step into any photo.
- Pull back bring both hands together to return to the wall.
- Fallback without a webcam, a mouse and scroll work as controls.
The interface

The interface stays calm and minimal so the photos remain the focus. A live panel shows the hand-tracking skeleton over the webcam feed, a status card shows whether vision is active and how many hands are tracked, and a counter shows the current photo in the archive. Typography and soft glass panels give the experience a clean, spatial-computing feel.

The same approach can power interactive brand experiences: a real estate project gallery viewers walk through with their hands, a fashion lookbook, a museum or heritage archive, an event memory wall, or a product showcase at an exhibition stall or experience centre.
